Royalmount to launch a public art program

Royalmount to launch a public art program

The public art program will showcase bold works by local and international artists.

Royalmount has announced the creation of a unique experience that will celebrate art in all its forms when it opens to the public this August.

Accessible to all visitors, the art walk is an unprecedented initiative. A number of the works stem from a collaboration with public art consultants and creative placemaking experts MASSIVart, who, along with LNDMRK and Art Souterrain, play a pivotal role in bringing the vision to life.

The permanent, one-of-a-kind exhibition will feature 15 works stationed throughout the Royalmount site by 17 avant-garde artists from Canada and abroad: Hanna Barczyk (Montréal), Nicole Beno (Toronto), Bikismo (Puerto Rico), Chiaozza (New York), Cooke-Sasseville (Quebec), Chun Hua Catherine Dong (Montréal), Collectif Escargo (Montréal), Isidro Ferrer (Spain), Cristina Mejías (Spain), Drew Merritt (Los Angeles), Zéh Palito (Brazil), Matthias Pliessnig (Rhode Island), Soft Lab (New York) and Ara Thorose (New York).

For the launch of the program, the participating artists, who hail from various disciplines, were asked to create a series of works specially designed for Royalmount, centered on the theme of "Unexpected Horizons." Each original piece of mural, sculptural, contemporary and visual art will capture the essence of the theme in its own unique way. To further enrich the experience and keep it fresh, additional pieces will be added to the program over the years.
